Open Source Media Player Alternatives

By admin • February 21, 2010 • Filed in: Open Source

live.pirillo.com – This live call involved a gentleman asking me for a good free alternative to Windows Media Player. He’s had a lot of trouble using WMP, and doesn’t really like it.

LOL! Your Phone does the same exact thing mine does!

hey i want a media player that can play anything i throw at it. also i want it to be good to hd movies. Is VLC the best choice for hd movies?

VLC is fantastic, or SMPlayer

yeah i seem to be having this problem also. VLC makes .wmv files have color distortions…

GOM for video, maybe WinAMP/FooBar2000 for audio.

Of course there are the combination media players such as KMplayer and VLCplayer, which are top-rated, but its best to download and try for yourself.

I’d like to know which is the less cpu hog !

KMP IS THE BEST
better than wmp, vlc, mplayer, and all others…that i know of

search kmp on freewarefiles. com

VLC is good except for certain RealMedia file types.

Win Amp and Song Bird are great alternatives

VLC is the best by far, no fucking shitty codexs and all that bollox, stick with the orange cone you’ll never go back.

Odd question, how do you change file type associations in osx, I have vlc but my files still want to open in quicktime?”???

Never tried it, but VLC is more popular and very small.

Yes it does trust me I use it all the time!

Me thinks that Chris has never actually tried Flip4Mac. Logos on the screen? Yeah right. Actually its 100% invisible. Plays the wmv seamlessly in Quicktime Player or browser window.

actually you were last XD
